OHL hosting CHL/NHL Officiating Development Camp in Kitchener
The Ontario Hockey League, in partnership with the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL), the Western Hockey League (WHL), and the National Hockey League (NHL), is hosting the 2023 CHL/NHL Officials’ Development Camp in Kitchener, Ont. from Nov. 30 to Dec. 3.
The camp offers eight selected CHL referees, and eight selected CHL linesmen the opportunity to participate in various on and off-ice activities with a goal of supporting and enhancing the development of current CHL officials in conjunction with the NHL. Rotating across all three leagues, the seminar is designed to create exposure, opportunity, identification, and development for all officials in attendance.
“The Ontario Hockey League is proud to host the 16th CHL/NHL Officials’ Development Camp for the third consecutive year”, said OHL Director of Officiating, Conrad Hache. “Throughout the weekend, selected officials from across the country will have the opportunity to learn, grow, and demonstrate their skills in front of NHL Officiating Managers in attendance. We look forward to watching them on and off the ice, as we continue to enhance all officiating across the CHL.”
The 16 participating officials will receive game assignments in the Ontario Hockey League throughout the weekend.
Throughout the seminar’s 16 year history, 210 officials have attended, with 43 officiating a Memorial Cup, and 24 continuing their journey into the NHL.
The officials are being mentored by NHL Officiating Director, Al Kimmel, along with NHL Officiating Managers Chris Edwards, Jay Sharrers, and Mark Faucette.
