NHL Debut: Isaiah George (Nov. 5, 2024)
Tuesday night was a dream come true for Isaiah George, who played his first NHL game with the New York Islanders at the age of 20. George skated for 15:41 and recorded one shot on goal as New York defeated the visiting Pittsburgh Penguins 4-3 in a shootout at UBS Arena.
A left-handed defenceman from Oakville, Ont., George played three seasons with the London Knights in the OHL (2021-24), earning titles as a two-time Western Conference Champion and 2023-24 OHL Champion. Over 189 regular season games, the 6-foot-1, 196lb. blueliner recorded 19 goals and 56 assists for 75 points, along with 15 points (4-11-15) in 38 playoff contests. The Knights selected George in the sixth round (68th overall) of the 2020 OHL Priority Selection.
In his first professional season, George has posted two points (1-1-2) in four games with the Bridgeport Islanders of the AHL. George was drafted by New York in the fourth round (98th overall) of the 2022 NHL Draft.
