Generals’ Jacob Oster commits to Vermont University
Oshawa Generals overage goaltender Jacob Oster has announced his commitment to Vermont University for the 2025-26 NCAA hockey season.
A native of Ottawa, Ont., Jacob Oster was selected 92nd overall by the Guelph Storm in the fifth round of the 2020 OHL Priority Selection. The 6-foot-3 netminder spent a season and a half in Guelph before being traded to the Oshawa Generals during the 2022-23 campaign.
Oster found his stride in Oshawa, earning OHL Goaltender of the Year honours in his first full season with the club. In 2024-25, he posted a 2.81 goals-against average, a .904 save percentage, and a 32-17-3-1 record across 53 regular-season games. He ranked fourth among OHL goaltenders and was instrumental in helping the Generals reach their second consecutive OHL Championship final.
Located in Burlington, Vermont, the University of Vermont has produced several NHL alumni, including three-time Stanley Cup champion Patrick Sharp and former NHL All-Star and Hart Trophy winner Martin St. Louis.
The Vermont Catamounts men’s ice hockey team is an NCAA Division I college ice hockey program that competes in the Hockey East conference.
Oster is the fourth OHL player to join the Catamounts for the 2025-26 season, joining Cedrick Guindon of the Kingston Frontenacs, PJ Forgione of the Saginaw Spirit and Zach Filak of the Sarnia Sting.
