Frontenacs set new franchise wins mark
Sunday March 6, 2016
After clinching their first East Division title since 1995 last weekend, the Kingston Frontenacs continued their assault on the record books on Sunday in Windsor.
A 43-save performance from goaltender Lucas Peressini propelled the Frontenacs to a franchise record 43rd win as blueliner Stephen Desrocher provided a goal and an assist in a 6-3 victory over the Windsor Spitfires before a national audience on Sportsnet.
The 2015-16 record surpasses the mark of 42 wins set in 1989-90, the first year the franchise took on the Frontenacs identity after 16 years spent as the Kingston Canadians (1973-88) and Raiders (1988-89).
The Frontenacs reached a new franchise mark for points in a season on Saturday in Flint as Florida Panthers prospect Lawson Crouse netted a hat-trick along with an assist in a 7-2 win to eclipse the 1990 and 1995 totals of 87 points.
The Fronts reached the 90-point mark with Sunday’s victory, taking home all six points on their weekend road trip with wins in Saginaw, Flint and Windsor.
The 2015-16 Frontenacs currently boast the OHL’s top penalty kill, performing at an 84.5% efficiency rate and have played to a 43-15-2-2 mark under sophomore head coach Paul McFarland.
The record breaking may not be finished yet either. The club could be on its way to besting a franchise-low mark of 197 goals allowed last season, having surrendered just 172 through 62 contests.
The Frontenacs enter their final six games of the schedule with wins in eight straight and will be looking to win their first playoff series since 1998 when the 2016 OHL Playoffs get underway later this month.
