Cowan’s remarkable regular season point streak reaches 56 games
Easton Cowan‘s remarkable ride continued on Friday night, with his run of consecutive regular season games with a point reaching 56. For those unfamiliar with the OHL record book, that’s a significant number given Doug Gilmour’s league single season point streak record of 55 games set as a member of the 1982-83 Cornwall Royals.
Cowan’s feat was accomplished across two different seasons, a scenario the OHL has not tracked extensively throughout its history that officially reaches back to 1980-81. His streak started on November 25, 2023 and stretched until the end of the 2023-24 regular season. Cowan was held off the scoresheet twice during the 2024 OHL Playoffs as well as in the opening game of the 2024 Memorial Cup in Saginaw. The Toronto Maple Leafs first round pick has been dynamite with a point in 20 straight games to begin 2024-25, drawing an ovation from the London crowd on Friday as he surpassed the iconic single season mark held by Gilmour with his goal 13:28 into the first period.

Things eventually went south for Cowan and the Knights on Friday as he left the game with an injury and the Knights squandered a 3-0 lead, surrendering five unanswered as the Oshawa Generals snapped London’s 19-game winning streak before a crowd of 9,061 at Canada Life Place.
The league’s defending Most Outstanding Player, Cowan has been great since returning from the Toronto Maple Leafs, producing 28 points (15-13–28) across 20 games as London leads the OHL standings with a record of 23-5-0-0.
The Knights’ only action was Friday this weekend and Cowan is heading off to Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp in the coming days. He likely won’t be back in green and gold to continue his point streak until the conclusion of the World Juniors in January.
