Chisholm and Rees added to Canada’s National Junior Team Summer Showcase roster
CALGARY, Alta. – Hockey Canada has announced the addition of defenceman Declan Chisholm (Peterborough Petes) and forward Jamieson Rees (Sarnia Sting) to the roster for Canada’s National Junior Team Sport Chek Summer Showcase, July 27 to Aug. 3 in Plymouth, Mich.
Chisholm, a 2018 fifth-round NHL draft pick of the Winnipeg Jets, recorded five goals and 43 assists in 67 games in his third season with the Peterborough Petes, and added two goals and two assists in five playoff games. He won a silver medal with Team Canada Black at the 2016 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, where he registered two assists.
Rees, a 2019 second-round NHL draft pick of the Carolina Hurricanes, recorded 10 goals and 22 assists in his second season with the Sarnia Sting. He played for Team Canada Black at the 2017 World Under-17 Hockey Challenge, won a gold medal at the 2018 Hlinka Gretzky Cup and wore the Maple Leaf at the 2019 IIHF U18 World Championship.
Hockey Canada also announced forwards Ty Dellandrea (Flint Firebirds), Cole Fonstad (Prince Albert Raiders) and Barrett Hayton (Soo Greyhounds), and defencemen Noah Dobson (Rouyn-Noranda Huskies), Jared McIsaac (Halifax Mooseheads) and Ty Smith (Spokane Chiefs) are unable to participate.
Canadian players will be split into two teams – Red and White – and will play four games in Plymouth, taking on the United States twice in addition to singles against Finland and Sweden.
Canada will look to bring home a gold medal at the 2020 IIHF World Junior Championship, set for Dec. 26 to Jan. 5 in Trinec and Ostrava, Czech Republic. Since 1977, Canada has won gold at the IIHF World Junior Championship 17 times, and collected nine silver medals and five bronze.
