2015-16 OHL Regular Season Schedule

Toronto, ON – The Ontario Hockey League today announced the regular season schedule of games for 2015-16.

The 680-game OHL regular season opens on Thursday September 24 with three games on the schedule featuring the rekindling of a Michigan state rivalry between the Saginaw Spirit and the visiting Flint Firebirds who make their OHL debut. In other Western Conference action, the Windsor Spitfires host the reigning conference champion Erie Otters, and in Eastern Conference action, the Ottawa 67’s visit the Peterborough Petes.

Opening week continues on Friday September 25 with nine games on the schedule and features season openers for 14 clubs including the Hamilton Bulldogs who make their OHL debut on the road against the London Knights, and the defending Robertson Cup and MasterCard Memorial Cup champion Oshawa Generals visiting the 2014 OHL champion Guelph Storm.  Other opening week highlights include Saturday September 26 when the Firebirds host their first game in franchise history at Perani Arena against the Spirit, while the Bulldogs make their home debut at FirstOntario Centre against East Division opponent Oshawa.  The Generals close out opening week at home on Sunday September 27 in a rematch of the Eastern Conference Championship Series against the North Bay Battalion.

The 2015-16 schedule includes five weekday morning games including Wednesday October 28 when the Spirit host the Firebirds at 10:45 am, followed by two morning games on Wednesday November 4 with the Bulldogs hosting the Mississauga Steelheads and the 67’s hosting the Kingston Frontenacs both at 10:30 am.  The Steelheads will then host the Bulldogs at 11:00 am on Wednesday November 18, and the Otters will host the Storm at 11:00 am on Wednesday December 2.  TVCogeco Hockey Day in the OHL returns for a third straight year taking place on Sunday January 31 with a broadcast tripleheader featuring the Spitfires hosting the Sarnia Sting at 1:00 pm, the Niagara IceDogs hosting the Bulldogs at 4:00 pm, and the Petes hosting the Frontenacs at 7:00 pm. 

Divisional alignment remains the same for 2015-16 with all teams playing interdivisional rivals a minimum of six times including three games at home and three on the road, while teams will continue to play a minimum of one home and one road matchup against all 19 other clubs.

The 2015-16 regular season wraps up on Sunday March 20 with five games scheduled before the league’s top 16 teams will compete for the Robertson Cup in the 2016 OHL Playoffs.

Clubs celebrating milestone seasons in 2015-16 include the Otters’ 20th anniversary, the Storm are honouring their 25th anniversary, and the Petes are celebrating their 60th. 

CHL Special Events this season include the 2015 SUBWAY Super Series in OHL markets on Thursday November 12 hosted by the Owen Sound Attack, followed by Monday November 16 hosted by the Windsor Spitfires.  The 2016 CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game is scheduled for Thursday January 28 in Vancouver, BC, and the MasterCard Memorial Cup is set for May 19-29 hosted by the WHL’s Red Deer Rebels and features the champions from all three leagues competing in the 98th edition of the CHL’s prestigious national championship.

The Ontario Hockey League continues the tradition of being primarily a weekend league in order to accommodate the student athlete with over 87% (595) games scheduled between Thursday and Sunday.  Friday continues to be the busiest night during the season with 201 games scheduled, followed by 163 on Saturdays, and 134 on Sundays.
