Wolves Snap Losing Slump
The Wolves were successful in putting an end to their five-game losing slump on Friday night with a huge 3-2 shootout win against the Sarnia Sting.
The Sting got off to a quick start in the first as NICK LATTA scored 2 minutes and 30 seconds into the frame to give the Sting a 1-0 lead. The Wolves looked to be in trouble when NATHAN CULL received a 5-minute major and a game misconduct for his check from behind on Sting defenseman JOSHUA CHAPMAN at the 13:09 mark of the period. The Wolves were successful in killing of the major penalty and used the momentum acquired from the penalty kill to score a late goal off of the stick of MATHEW CAMPAGNA. The Sting held the edge in shots in the first frame by an 8 to 6 margin.
The second period remained scoreless until NICKOLAY GOLDOBIN tipped home a point shot from CONNOR MURPHY while the teams were playing four aside at the 15:45 of the frame. Despite trailing on the scoreboard in the second period, the Wolves fired 18 shots on goal compared to the Sting’s 5.
The Wolves would rally on the power play in the third frame when NATHAN PANCEL banged home a rebound on a point shotfrom FRANK CORRADO to tie the game up at two with 7:37 to play in the period. Neither team would find the back of the net for the remainder of the period, which would send the game to overtime. Both teams would fire 10 shots at the opposing goal in the third frame.
Overtime would solve nothing and would send the teams to a shootout. DOMINIK KAHUN proved to be the hero when he beat J.P ANDERSON with a highlight real move that brought the Wolves faithful to their feet.
