Colts Defeat Wolves
The Wolves completed their three game home stand Sunday afternoon with a 7-2 loss to the hands of their divisional rivals, the Barrie Colts.
The first frame remained scoreless until the 19:05 mark of the period when RYAN O’CONNOR fired a bullet from the blueline to put the Colts up by one heading into the break. Both goaltenders were strong for their respective teams in the first each facing 12 shots apiece.
The second period would be a much different story from the first as it saw both teams score a flurry of goals. DALE HAWERCHUK’S Colts came charging out of the gate in the second period and posted two goals in the first 3:30 seconds of the frame. The first goal came only 18 seconds into the period after ANTHONY CAMARA fired a shot past Wolves net minder JOEL VIENNEAU. The second goal would come just over three minutes later as BRENDAN LEMIEUX would extend the Colts lead to 3-0. The back-to-back goals would mark the end of the afternoon for VIENNEAU in goal as TAYLOR DUPUIS would come on in relief. The Wolves would get on the board on the power play at the 5:13 mark of the second when BRODY SILK finished off a beautiful tic-tac-toe play with DOMINIK KAHUN and JOSH LEIVO to pull the Wolves within two. The Colts would restore their three-goal lead a minute and twenty seconds later when ANDREAS ATHANASIOU beat DUPUIS for his first of the afternoon. The Wolves would respond once again as their first line trio would connect for their second goal of the evening. DOMINIK KAHUN was the goal scorer as he fired a wrist shot upstairs on Colts goalie ALEX FOTINOS after receiving a beautiful cross crease pass from JOSH LEIVO. O’CONNOR would score his second goal of the afternoon on a late 5 on 3 power play to put the Colts up 5-2 heading into the second intermission. Both teams fired 17 shots on goal in the second period.
The Colts would not let up in the third period, as BRENDAN LEMIEUX would score his second of the game 2:29 into the frame to extend the Colts lead to four. MARK SCHIEFELE would seal the deal with 5:25 to play as he fired it home past DUPUIS to give the Colts a 7-2 lead. The Colts would outshoot the Wolves in the period 10 to 7.
The Wolves will be back in action at home next Friday for a 7:35 P.M. contest against the Soo Greyhound in game two of the BELL CHALLENGE CUP. The Wolves will be looking to draw even as they lost a hard fought 3-1 game to the hands on the Greyhounds back on October 17th.
