Wolves Sign Eccles
The Sudbury Wolves continued their quest to sign their top young prospects today by announcing the signing of 16-year-old defenceman DAVID ECCLES to an OHL contract. The signing was completed at the Hershey Centre in Mississauga during this week’s OHL Cup.
Eccles is a big 6’3″, 200 lb defenceman that the Wolves drafted in the 4th round, 73rd overall of the 2012 OHL Priority Draft. The Ancaster native played for Stoney Creek Jr. B and finished the regular season with 4 goals, 9 assists for 13 points in 45 games. He also had 39 penalty minutes.
Wolves’ GM Blaine Smith was pleased to add another solid young defencemen to the Wolves’ roster: “David was the second defenceman that we selected in the 2012 draft so it was very important that we signed him as soon as possible. David had a solid season in Stoney Creek; he earned lots of icetime and played in all situations. David is a solid two-way defenceman and will add more size and depth to our blueline.”
The Wolves have now signed six players from the 2012 OHL draft including:
CONOR CUMMINS – LD – 1ST ROUND
MATT SCHMALZ – RW – 1ST ROUND (from Kitchener)
FRANK VILARDI – C – 3RD ROUND
CONNOR BURGESS- LW – 3RD ROUND
DAVID ECCLES – LD – 4TH ROUND
MIKE MUZYKA – G – 6TH ROUND
Eccles is expected to make his OHL debut this weekend as the Wolves have clinched 5th spot in the Eastern Conference and will be looking to give some younger players an opportunity to play as the team prepares for the first round of the OHL Play-offs against the Brampton Battalion.
