Wolves’ Franky Palazzese named Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week
Toronto, ON – The Canadian Hockey League today announced that Franky Palazzese of the Sudbury Wolves is the Vaughn CHL Goaltender of the Week for the week ending January 5 after posting a 3-0-0-0 record with two shutout victories along with a goals-against-average of 0.32 and a save percentage of .991.
Palazzese made 111 saves in three straight wins last week backstopping the Wolves to their 14th win in 16 games dating back to November 17. First place in the OHL’s Central Division, the Wolves edged northern rivals the North Bay Battalion 2-1 in a shootout on New Year’s Eve where Palazzese made 41 saves as first star of the game. Palazzese finished the week recording back-to-back shutouts including a 40-save performance as first star in a 2-0 win over the Oshawa Generals on Friday night, then stopped all 30 shots he faced on Saturday earning first star honours for the third straight game in a 2-0 win over the Kitchener Rangers.
Palazzese, a 20-year-old from Toronto, ON, is playing in his fourth full OHL season and second season with the Wolves after joining the club midway through last season. Named the Vaughn OHL Goaltender of the Month for December, Palazzese has a 20-10-2-2 record this season with four shutouts which ties him for the OHL lead along with a goals-against-average of 3.05 and a save percentage of .915.
Also considered for the award this week was Storm Phaneuf of the Shawinigan Cataractes who stopped 83 shots in two games going 1-0-0-1 with a goals-against-average of 1.92 and a save percentage of .954, and Eetu Laurikainen of the Swift Current Broncos who made 78 saves in two games with a 1-1-0-0 record for a goals-against-average of 1.51 and a save percentage of .963.
