Wolves Forwards Ranked
As the 2012-13 OHL season gets underway this week, the Sudbury Wolves have three forwards ranked for the upcoming 2013 NHL draft according to RED LINE REPORT’s September edition. NICK BAPTISTE, 17, leads the way currently ranked #41 overall. That places the Ottawa native in the early part of the second-round of the 2013 NHL draft. The 6’2”, 200 lb right-shot forward plays a power forward style of game and provides “outstanding speed and strength and a very big upside.” Baptiste recorded 8 goals, 19 assists for 27 points and 42 pims in 64 regular season games in his rookie OHL season last year.
BRODY SILK, 17, is now ranked at #62 by Red Line Report. This places the Iroquois Falls native at the early part of the 3rd round of the NHL draft. Silk, 6’, 180 lbs, was drafted in the 2nd round of the 2010 OHL draft after winning the scoring race of the Great North Midget league. As a late birthdate, (November 30th), Silk is entering his third season in the OHL and is expected to become a ‘force for the Wolves.’ Silk ran into a lengthy suspension and a broken wrist last year which allowed the skilled forward to play in only 39 games last season. Silk still managed to score 13 goals and 11 assists for 24 points and 80 minutes in penalties. Silk scored 5 goals on the power play last season.
The third Wolves’ forward ranked by RLR is Czech forward DOMINIK KUBALIK. Kubalik, 17, is ranked #105, which places him at the mid-way mark of the 4th round of the NHL draft. The 6’1”, 175 lb left-winger is an “outstanding skater and possesses a great shot.” Kubalik scored 33 goals, 22 assists for 55 points and 34 minutes in penalties in 44 games played in the Czech Junior league last season. Kubalik was the Wolves first CHL Import draft selection, 27th overall. Kubalik joined the Wolves during the Wolves’ gold medal performance at the JUNIOR CLUB WORLD CUP Championships in Omsk, Siberia in August.
