Wolves Drop Close Contest to Colts
The Sudbury Wolves dropped a close 4-2 contest to the Barrie Colts Friday night at the Sudbury Arena. Wolves’ goaltender ZACK BOWMAN had a very strong game despite the loss, stopping 44 shots and was named the game’s third star.
The Wolves started the game off very strong. Barrie took an early penalty and the Wolves had a number of good scoring chances but were unable to capitalize. The Colts’ Andrew Mangiapane opened the scoring off a defensive zone turnover by the Wolves, however, the Wolves were able to respond as DANNY DESROCHERS scored his 6th goal of the season to tie the game up at one. PAVEL JENYS and MATT SCHMALZ assisted on the marker. ZACK BOWMAN made a number of good saves throughout the period to keep the game tied up. After 20 minutes, shots on goal were 17-12 in favour of Barrie.
The Colts took the lead in the 2nd period of play as Roy Radke scored an unassisted goal to give the Colts a 2-1 lead. NICHOLAS ROMERO dropped the gloves with Barrie’s Justin Murray to try and give the Wolves some momentum toward the end of the period. BOWMAN continued to stand tall between the pipes for the Wolves, making key saves to keep the Colts in check. After the 2nd, the Colts continued to lead in shots 33-24.
The Wolves battled hard in the final period but came up short. ALAN LYSZCZARCZYK scored on the rebound to tie the game at 2 with TRENTON BOURQUE and BRADY PATAKI picking up assists on the play. The Colts were able to respond quickly as Julius Nattinen scored on a 4-on-4, which turned out to be the eventual game winner. MICHAEL PEZZETTA took down Barrie’s Cordell James in the second fight of the game. Final shots were 48-37 for Barrie.
