Wolves Defeat the Majors
The Sudbury Wolves went from playing the last team in the league on Friday night to the second best team in the Country on Saturday night, and proved there is still some fight left in them.
On Saturday, the Wolves hosted the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors. Prior to the game, the team and fans honoured Majors Head Coach DAVE CAMERON and CASEY CIZIKAS for their silver medal performance with TEAM CANADA at the World Junior Hockey Championships in Buffalo, NY. The Wolvea also honoured the newest member of the Majors, MAXIM KITSYN, who won gold medal with TEAM RUSSIA.
The Majors took an earlier 1 – 0 lead in the first period, and that proved to be the last time they would hold the lead in the game. The Wolves responded with 3 goals in the first period to lead 3 – 2 after the opening frame. Scoring for the Pack were ANDREY KUCHIN with 2, and ALEX RACINO.
The second period saw the Majors get into some penalty trouble and the Wolves took advantage scoring 3 more goals on the powerplay from MARCUS FOLIGNO, MICHAEL LOMAS and ERIC O’DELL. KITSYN added another goal for the Majors but the Wolves held the 6 – 3 lead into the third and final period.
In the third period, the Majors dominated the period and CIZIKAS netted a pair of goals for a hat-trick on the night but it wasn’t enough as the Wolves held on to win the contest by a final score of 6 – 5.
The Wolves will now have the week off as they prepare to take on the Brampton Battalion next Friday at the Sudbury Arena.
