Wolves Continue to Win Against Colts
It was a good night at the Sudbury Arena on Friday night. Not only did we celebrate the achievements of our medallists MATHEW CAMPAGNA, BRODY SILK and captain MARCUS FOLIGNO, the Pack ended their 6 game losing streak by defeating the Barrie Colts for a 6th straight time this season, and this one by a final score of 8 – 3.
Despite being outshot, the Barrie Colts were the first to the scoreboard taking a 1 – 0 lead at the 12:00 mark of the first period. The Wolves responded less than two minutes later on a goal by KRISTOFF KONTOS (JOSH LEIVO, ANDREY KUCHIN). They then added to the lead late in the period when GREG JAMBROSICH (BRODY SILK, SAMUEL SCHUTT) netted his 5th goal of the season, however, the Colts responded in the final minute sending the teams tied 2 – 2 into the intermission.
The second period was all Wolves from beginning to end. The Pack scored 5 answered goals including a hatrick from MICHAEL SGARBOSSA, which included two power play goals and assists from MIKE LOMAS, JOSH MCFADDEN and MARCUS FOLIGNO. Also scoring for the Wolves were ERIC O’DELL (MATHEW CAMPAGNA, MICHAEL MACDONALD) and Captain MARCUS FOLIGNO (MCFADDEN) with a shorthanded marker to close out the period and giving the Wolves a 7 – 2 lead heading into the third period.
The teams traded goals early in the final frame with KONTOS scoring his second of the night to give the Wolves a 8 – 3 lead and would end up the final score.
Wolves starting netminder ALAIN VALIQUETTE had a solid outing making 29 saves. The Barrie Colts tandem shared the duties with starter John Chartrand making 24 saves on 31 shots, and Clint Windsor came in for the third period and made 10 saves on 11 shots.
The Wolves will have a tough test on Saturday night when they host the MISSISSAUGA ST. MICHAEL’s MAJORS – game time at 7:00PM. Tickets are available at the Sudbury Box Office or online here.
