Wolves battle with Battalion
The Sudbury Wolves could not add to the Anniversary celebrations this weekend, as they were unable to come out with a win during home opener weekend. On Saturday night, the Pack lost to the visiting Brampton Battalion by a final score of 5 – 0.
The game began with a ceremonial puck drop by local NHL Alumni, and former Sudbury Wolves coach JERRY TOPPAZZINI.
The first period saw the play go back and forth but it was the Battalion who hit the scoresheet first at 18:23 of the opening frame with a powerplay goal by Sam Carrick.
The second period was all Battalion as they added 3 unanswered goals, including one shorthanded and one powerplay, from Ian Watters (2) and Patrick Machac. The Wolves had five powerplay opportunities in the frame but were unable to solve Battalion goaltender Matej Machovsky.
The Battalion added another shorthanded marker in the third period and went on to win the contest by a final score of 5 – 0.
Sudbury Wolves netminder BRENDAN O’NEILL started the game and made 16 saves before being replaced at the start of the third period by JOEL VIENNEAU. Meanwhile, Machovsky made 15 saves in the shutout win.
The Wolves will look to regroup before heading out on their first road trip next next Friday with a stop in London, and Saturday in Sarnia. The team will return to home ice action on Friday, October 7 when they host the Niagara Ice Dogs. Game time is 7:30pm.
