Wolves Acquire Cull
The Sudbury Wolves are pleased to announced the acquisition of 18 year old forward NATHAN CULL from the Kingston Frontenacs. Cull, 5’11”, 190 lb forward, hails from Thunder Bay and was selected 30th overall in the 2nd round of the 2010 OHL Draft. In return, the Wolves dealt forward SAM SCHUTT to the Frontenacs. SCHUTT, 18, was also selected in the 2nd round of the 2010 OHL draft by the Wolves, 40th overall.
Cull recorded 8 goals and 11 assists for 19 points in 63 games last season in Kingston. He also added 120 minutes in penalties. The skilled two-way forward had 27 goals and 36 assists for 63 points in 32 games in his minor midget year with the Thunder Bay Kings AAA team. Cull is a right-shot forward that can play on either wing as well as the centre position. Cull is not related to Wolves’ Head Coach Trent Cull.
“We are very pleased to welcome Nathan Cull to our organization” notes Wolves’ GM Blaine Smith. “Nathan is one of those players that other teams do not enjoy playing against and he has good offensive skills including a pro shot. We believe that Nathan will help spark our team’s offence as well as adding more grit and toughness to our line-up.”
“I’m excited to get to Sudbury and help the Wolves succeed this season” notes the articulate young Cull. “Sudbury’s style is an excellent fit for my game and I have some good friends on the Sudbury team, so I am looking forward to joining them this week and getting off to a fresh start in Sudbury.”
The Sudbury Wolves organization extends their appreciation to Sam Schutt for his contribution to the team over the past two years and wish him well in his new home in Kingston. “Sam is an outstanding young man and someone that we will miss in our line-up and in our room” adds Smith. “We know that he will enjoy his new opportunity in Kingston and we want to thank him for his personal efforts and contribution to the Sudbury Wolves.”
Nathan Cull will make his debut in a Wolves’ uniform this weekend as the Wolves will play three games in less than three days beginning Friday night when the Wolves host NHL top draft selections: DOUGIE HAMILTON, RYAN STROME, BRETT RITCHIE and the NIAGARA ICEDOGS. Game time on Friday night is 7:35.
On Saturday, the Wolves will once again hit-the-road for a trip to Owen Sound before ending the weekend with a matinee contest in Mississauga on Sunday.
