Wolves Bit By Hounds
The Sudbury Wolves were in Sault Ste. Marie Wednesday night for game 5 of the Bell Challenge Cup. The Wolves and Greyhounds played to a scoreless first period, however the Greyhounds came out firing in the second and never looked back as they defeated the Wolves by a 7-2 final.
The Wolves and Greyhounds exchanged chances in the first period, but it would end in a scoreless tie as both Jake McGrath and Matthew Villalta shut the doors on their respective nets. The Greyhounds led shots on goal 15-11 after twenty minutes.
In the second, the floodgates opened for the Greyhounds as they scored four unanswered goals in the period to take a 4-0 lead. Zachary Senyshyn added two goals, while Otto Makinen and Bobby MacIntyre each added singles. Senyshyn’s goals were both power play markers. The Greyhounds outshot the Wolves 25-5 in the second period.
Mackenzie Savard was given the nod in net to start the third in hopes of sparking something for the Wolfpack. Blake Speers put one past Savard early in the frame to extend the Greyhounds lead to 5-0, however the Wolves bounced back with two of their own off the sticks of C.J. Yakimowicz and Macauley Carson to make it 5-2. Unfortunately that wasn’t the end for the Greyhounds as they scored two more to take it by a 7-2 final. Final shots on goal were 54 to 25 in favour of the Greyhounds.
The Wolves were 1 for 4 on the power play while the Greyhounds were 3 for 5.
The Wolves will look to rebound Friday when they host the North Bay Battalion at 7:00pm at the Sudbury Arena. Tickets are on-sale now at the Sudbury Arena Box Office or online at greatersudbury.ca/tickets.
