Subway Super Series-The History-2009-2010
The Subway Super Series is coming to the Sleeman Centre! Game 3 will be played on Thursday November 8, 2012 at 7:00pm. This is the tenth year that regional teams of CHL All-Stars will compete against the Russian Junior Team as part of a six-game series. The History of the Super Series
2009
The 2009 series started in Quebec with two wins over the Russians by Team QMJHL 3-1 and 8-3. Games three was in Barrie. Jeff Skinner of the Kitchener Rangers scored twice to help Team OHL win 5-2 over the Russian Selects. Taylor Beck of the Guelph Storm scored a goal in the second period on a power play. The OHL outshot the Russians 50-21. Game four took place in Windsor and saw the OHL Team win 5-2 again over the Russian Selects. Taylor Hall of the Windsor Spitfires and Nazem Kadri of the London Knights each had a goal and an assist. Matt Hackett stopped 30 or the 32 shots he faced in net. When the series moved to British Columbia the WHL continued the winning streak with wins of 2-1 and 4-2 over the Russian Selects.
2010
Team Russia started out strong in the QMJHL leg of the 2010 Subway Super Series with two wins of 5-4 and 4-3. In game three 12 players earned points to help Team OHL in a 4-0 victory over the Russian Selects. The third period saw Taylor Beck net a goal with assists by his fellow Guelph Storm teammates Peter Holland and Michael Latta. In Sudbury game four went to a shootout after Casey Cizikas had a great shot to tie the game at 1-1 in the third period. Marcus Foligno of the Subury Wolves scored the winning goal in the shootout on his home ice. Team OHL has been undefeated by the Russians since the beginning of the series. The Russian Selects fought back with two more wins over the WHL team in British Columbia. This was the first time in the history of the series that the Russian Selects were delcared the winner with 4 wins over the CHL teams 2.
