Storm preaches patience
By Tony Saxon, Guelph Mercury – Patience may be a virtue for the Guelph Storm when they open the OHL Championship Series Thursday night in Guelph.
With the North Bay Battalion ready to employ its renowned conservative game plan (some would call it a trap), Guelph will occasionally have to realize that you can’t force the issue.
As a former member of the Eastern Conference with the Peterborough Petes, the Storm’s Stephen Pierog (pictured) has played more games against North Bay than any of his teammates. He said the key is sticking to the Storm’s own strategy.
“You definitely can’t get frustrated if things aren’t going your way because that could happen. We can’t get down on ourselves and just be patient, because good things will happen,” Pierog said Thursday.
“We’re a hard-working team and they’re a hard-working team. We just have to play our game and overpower them and hopefully we should be good on the scoresheet,” Pierog said.
The Storm held a short practice Wednesday in preparation for the series opener. All hands were on deck, with no injuries keeping anyone off the ice.
