Storm misfires in Plymouth
One night after giving up the game’s first three goals against the Plymouth Whalers on their way to a loss, it was more of the same for Guelph on Saturday night in Plymouth.
First period goals by Tom Wilson and RJ Mahalak gave the Whalers a 2-0 lead after 20 minutes. Less than six minutes into the second, Tyler Brown added a third goal unanswered to make it 3-0. Tyler Carroll finally solved Scott Wedgewood at the seven minute mark of the third only to see Rickard Rakell and Dario Trutmann add singles to make it a 5-1 final.
Robbie Czarnik was the game’s first star with three assists on the night.
Matej Machovsky replaced starter Brandon Foote after Plymouth jumped out to the 3-0 lead. Foote was busy in 25 plus minutes of work stopping 24 of 27 shots, while Machovsky also saw a lot of rubber turning aside 26 of 28.
A pair of home games next weekend for the Storm with Belleville Bulls coming to town on Friday and the London Knights making a Saturday visit one night later.
