Storm edge Attack
It was a playoff atmosphere at the Sleeman Centre on Friday night in the front end of a home-and-home against the Owen Sound Attack. Brock McGinn proved to be the difference as he provided all of the offence for the home side in an exciting 2-1 win.
Garret Sparks continued his stellar play in goal for the Storm outplaying Team Canada netminder Jordan Binnington. Overall, it was a complete team effort for Guelph with strong games up and down the lineup.
After a scoreless first, McGinn opened the scoring as he banged in a rebound for his 16th of the year. The Attack’s Holden Cook replied with a rebound goal of his own to even the score setting the stage for McGinn’s heroics. Streaking up the ice on a two-on-one with Jason Dickinson, McGinn fought off an Owen Sound defender and flipped a backhander over Binnington’s shoulder as he was being hauled down.
McGinn’s second of the contest proved to be the winner with the Storm defence shutting down the Owen Sound offence and hanging on for the victory in a nervous third.
Tomorrow night, the Storm will move from the friendly confines of the standing room only Sleeman Centre to the not so friendly confines of the standing room only Bayshore Community Centre for a 7:30 start live on Rogers 20 and 1460 CJOY.
