Storm drops key game to Attack
Things just got a little tense around the Sleeman Centre.
A 4-3 loss to the Owen Sound Attack Friday night could make the Guelph Storm’s final game of the regular season on Sunday extremely important.
Had the Storm picked up a point Friday it would have clinched fourth place and home ice advantage for the first round of the playoffs. Friday’s loss means they either need Owen Sound to lose Saturday night at home to the Sarnia Sting or Guelph will have to earn at least one point when they host the Sting at the Sleeman Centre Sunday afternoon.
“We need our top six forwards, our top four defencemen and our goaltender to step up to the forefront and be the difference makers,” Storm coach Bill Stewart said. “That’s the way the game works and we have to go back to work on Sunday.”
He said the extra incentive of potentially playing for home ice shouldn’t be what gets his team motivated for the Sarnia game.
“If you’re cheerleader coaching, that’s not what gets you success. It’s a concentrated team effort that gets you success and that’s what we need right now from everyone.”
Making the playoff waters even murkier is that the sixth-place Kitchener Rangers could still catch Owen Sound for fifth place, which would mean a Guelph/Kitchener first-round matchup.
