Storm adds some Boom to roster
Guelph Storm General Manager Mike Kelly announced today that the Storm have acquired overage defenceman Brock Beukeboom from the Niagara Ice Dogs in exchange for a 4th round pick in 2013 (originally Oshawa’s selection), and a 2nd (originally London’s selection) and 6th round pick in the 2014 OHL Priority Selection (originally Brampton’s selection).
The 6’2”, 220 pound Uxbridge native entered the OHL as a first round pick of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in 2008. He played three seasons with the Greyhounds and was their team captain in 2010-11. Beukeboom was dealt to the Niagara Ice Dogs before 2011-12 where he captured the Eastern Conference Championship.
In 2008-09 Beukeboom played for Team Ontario in the World U-17 Challenge and suited up for Team Cherry at the 2010 CHL Top Prospects Game. He also represented Canada at the WJC U-18 tournament in 2009-10.
Drafted by the Tampa Bay Lightning early in the third round (63rd overall) in 2010, Beukeboom’s NHL rights were traded to the St. Louis Blues in February 2011. Unsigned by the Blues, the 20 year old blueliner is an NHL Free Agent
“Brock is a player that we have followed closely over the past season and a half. He is a right shot defenseman who brings a combination of size, skill, grit and leadership to our team.” Said GM Mike Kelly.
Brock will join the rest of the Storm on ice this weekend with games against Oshawa, Niagara and London.
