Storm add veteran defenseman Payton Robinson from Sudbury Wolves
General Manager George Burnett announced today that the Storm have acquired veteran defenceman Payton Robinson from the Sudbury Wolves in exchange for a 6th round selection in the 2024 OHL Priority Draft.
“Payton is an excellent skater and has the ability to move the puck and defend effectively,” said GM George Burnett. “We are excited to add Payton’s experience and leadership to our blueline.”
A native of Burlington, ON, Robinson was originally selected in the fifth round (97th overall) of the 2019 Ontario Hockey league Priority Selection by the Sudbury Wolves. In 65 games last season, the 6-foot-2, 195 lbs right-shot defender recorded one goal and eight assists for nine points. Before joining the Wolves, Robinson spent the 2019-20 season with the OJHL’s Burlington Cougars.
“I am beyond excited to be joining one of the best organizations in the CHL and a young exciting team who has high expectations for this upcoming season. The Guelph Storm have always been a team I’ve wanted to play for and I cannot express enough how grateful I am for this opportunity,” said Robinson. “Both of my parents attended the University of Guelph and still consider Guelph to be their home. I am excited to play in front of the great fans in Guelph.”
Pre-season action at the Sleeman Centre starts on Saturday, September 3rd when the Storm host the Mississauga Steelheads. Tickets for Saturday’s game and all exhibition action can be purchased at tickets.guelphstorm.com
