Stom ends year on a winning note
By Tony Saxon, Guelph Mercury
Justin Nichols has found a groove.
The Guelph Storm netminder turned in his third consecutive stellar outing New Year’s Eve, making 34 saves as the Storm downed the Barrie Colts 4-1 at the Molson Centre.
It was Guelph’s fifth straight win. They will try to make it six in a row when they visit the Owen Sound Attack Wednesday afternoon.
Everyone has seen how well Nichols can play. Consistency has been the occasional missing ingredient.
“That’s what I’m trying to do and that’s what will make the team successful, that they know what they’re going to get from me every night,” Nichols said after being named first star in Barrie.
Nichols seems to play better on nights when he’s busy.
“I think I can agree with that. You get shots it helps you get in a groove,” Nichols said. “When you have long periods in a game when you don’t get a shot, you can cool off a bit and like games where you’re making lots of saves.”
