Lest we forget

Today Canadians honour and remember our veterans, and all who served Canada during war, armed conflict and peace.

On the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month, Canadians are asked to pause and remember the thousands of men and women who sacrificed their lives fighting for freedom and democracy during the First World War, the Second World War, the Korean War and during peacekeeping missions including the ongoing operations to stabilize and reconstruct Afghanistan.

These wars touched the lives of Canadians of all ages, all races, all social classes. Fathers, sons, daughters, sweethearts were killed in action, were wounded, and many of those who returned were forever changed. Those who stayed in Canada also served – in factories,, in voluntary service organizations, wherever they were needed.

To our veterans and those that are currently serving, on behalf of all of us we salute you and we thank you.
