Horvat chooses OHL
Jacob Robinson, Simcoe Observer -Ryan Horvat knew that “the call” would eventually come, and when it did, a big decision loomed.
After finishing last season with the Brantford 99ers, the 16-year-old Simcoe product was taken 111th overall by the Guelph Storm in last season’s OHL priority selection draft.
He began his junior hockey career in nearby Listowel this fall, and just before the Christmas break had come to an end, his phone rang.
“When I first got called up, I was in shock. I was speechless, I didn’t really know what to say,” Horvat said of the call from Guelph.
“I pretty much just told them I’d give them a call back after I got caught up with everything that was going on. After that I was just excited.”
Upon being told by the Storm his services were needed thanks to injuries and players going to the World Junior Championships, Horvat had to choose a path.
