Happy Holidays for Storm 16’s

It’s been a happy holiday season for four of the Storm’s picks in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection.

In Nova Scotia, Luke Kirwan (pictured) leads the World Under 17 Hockey Challenge scoring as a member of Team USA with 6 points through two games.  The Storm’s second round pick in 2013, Kirwan was named Player of the Game in USA’s 14-1 win over Germany.  Like Kirwan and Team USA, Garrett McFadden and Team Ontario own a perfect 2-0 record through two games.  The Storm’s first round pick in April has picked up two assists in the two wins.  McFadden and Kirwan will square off in the final game of the round robin round in Sydney, Nova Scotia on January 2nd at 6 pm.

Meanwhile in Ontario, Adam Craievich looks to follow the example set by teammate Jason Dickinson two years ago after he was passed over by Team Ontario.  Craievich, who was chosen by Guelph in the third round, earned first star honours with a three-point effort on Sunday afternoon at a sold-out Sleeman Centre.  In his rookie season, Dickinson had only seven points through his first 28 games.  When the future NHL first round pick returned from the Christmas break with members of the team away at international events, Dickinson took advantage of the extra ice time and picked up points in five straight games and finished the month of January with 10 points in 11 games.  Craievich wasn’t the only Storm pick from 2013 that made an impression on Sunday.  James McEwen, Guelph’s ninth round pick in 2013, made his OHL debut hours after signing with the team.  McEwen didn’t look out of place in the Storm’s 5-2 win over the top-ranked Erie Otters and finished the game with a +1 plus/minus rating.
