Beck OHL Player of the Week
The Ontario Hockey League today announced that forward Taylor Beck of the Guelph Storm is the Boston Pizza OHL Player of the Week for the week ending January 17. In two games this week Beck led the league in scoring with seven points including three goals and four assists with a plus-minus rating of plus-2.
Beck had the best game of his career before a national audience on Rogers Sportsnet Sunday afternoon with five points including two goals and three assists as second star of an 8-3 win over the Sudbury Wolves. Both of his goals were scored in a second period span of 2:18 to give him 25 on the season. On Friday night he had a goal and an assist despite a 4-3 loss to the Owen Sound Attack.
Beck, an 18-year-old from Niagara Falls, ON, is playing in his third OHL season with the Storm and is currently fourth in league scoring with 65 points including 25 goals and 40 assists in 41 games. Beck was selected in the third round, 70th overall by the Nashville Predators at the 2009 NHL Entry Draft after competing in the 2009 Home Hardware CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game.
Justin Larson of the Peterborough Petes and Vern Cooper of the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds each receive honourable mention this week as they both scored three goals and three assists for six points in three games. Chris Carrozzi of the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors backstopped his way to a 2-0-0-0 record with a 0.990 goals-against-average and a save percentage of .965.
