Luchanko shines at 2024 NHL Scouting Combine
Storm forward Jett Luchanko joined 22 other draft-eligible OHL players at the 2024 NHL Scouting Combine in Buffalo, New York, in preparation for the NHL Draft in Las Vegas later this month.
Ranked 20th among North American Skaters, Luchanko scored 74 points in 68 games in his second season with the Storm, including 20 goals and 54 assists. In this year’s OHL Coaches Poll, he was the lone player to finish in the top three of four different categories. He is this year’s recipient of the league’s William Hanley Trophy awarded to the Most Sportsmanlike Player. Luchanko played a big role with Team Canada, winning gold at the U18 World Championship in May, contributing 7 points in 7 games (2 goals, 5 assists).
The annual Scouting Combine assessment involves interviews, medical screenings, and fitness tests. All 32 NHL teams send representatives to watch the testing and to take part in the interviewing of the young prospects. The assessment includes fitness testing, medical evaluation, psychological evaluation, and interviews. Luchanko finished in the top 25 for 13 of the 17 fitness testing events, including a top 5 finish for 6 of the events.
