Junior Reporter – Grey
Sunday, December 1 KIT @ GUE
My name is Grey Little, and I was so excited to be the Jr. Storm Reporter at the Guelph Storm’s Holiday Game on December 1st!
On the elevator ride up to the press box, I couldn’t stop smiling because I knew it was going to be such a fun day! When I got to the press box, they showed me around and even let me turn the music up really loud in the arena. In the media room, they gave me a copy of all the players’ stats, so I got to see who had the most goals, assists, and all sorts of cool information — just like a real reporter would have at a game!
One of the best parts of the day was when I got to ride on the mini Zamboni! I was a little nervous at first, but it was fun to wave at everyone in the crowd. The team was wearing special holiday-themed jerseys for the game, so I got my picture taken with a mannequin dressed in one, and I popped my face through the cut-out. I looked like I was a real Storm player, which is what I want to be when I grow up! I play hockey on the weekends with my team at the Sleeman Centre, so it always feels extra special to feel like a Storm player when we’re out there practicing!
The Storm were the first team to score against our rivals, the Kitchener Rangers. Gillespie, did a good job in net, and the crowd was cheering so loud! There were lots of “Go Storm Go!” signs all around the arena, and after the first period, I had a really good feeling that the Storm were going to win. The game was tied 2-2 going into the third period, and eventually, they went into overtime and the Rangers won 3-2.
The best part of the day came after the game, when I got to interview #11 Cam Allen. Cam was really nice. I decided to ask 3 questions that I knew kids my age might want to know:
What’s your favourite colour?
“My favorite colour is probably red.”
What’s your favourite animal?
“My favourite animal? Probably something in the wild, a cheetah”
When did you first start playing hockey?
“My dad put a rink in the backyard when I was two-years old but I started to play hockey when I was four.
When we go around the dinner table at home, we always share our favourite part of the day, and I can tell you that this was mine. My little brother came to the game too, and his favourite part was seeing the Zamboni clean the ice.
I hope everyone had as much fun as I did watching the game.
Thank you for having me!
