Game Stories: Storm downed by Frontenacs
On Sunday afternoon the Guelph Storm visited the Kingston Frontenacs for their cross-conference clash. Guelph was looking to build off a big 5-2 win in Ottawa on Saturday afternoon. While the Frontenacs were looking to snap a three-game losing streak.
Guelph called on Liam Herbst to make his fifth straight start, while the Frontenac’s countered with veteran Jeremy Helvig. When the final buzzer rang, it was the Frontenacs who claimed the 4-1 victory over the Storm.
Both teams came out flat to start the game, as neither team was able to generate any real threats early on.
The pace throughout the period began to pick up as both teams had special team chances but, were unable to beat either goalie in the period.
The period ended tied 0-0, and the shots were 10-9 in favour of the home team.
Both teams continued to increase the pace, opening the second-period trading quality chances. off to a quick start with both teams having many chances.
Just seven minuted into the second frame, the Storm would head to their first power play of the game, and they would capitalize on the opportunity, as Luke Burghardt put away the rebound to open the scoring.
The Storm would head back on the power play just three minutes later, but this time Kingston would find the equalizer, as Sam Harding scored the shorthanded goal off of a 3-1 rush.
Special teams continued to be the theme of the period as the Frontenacs headed to a 5 on 3 power play late in the frame. Kingston would make the Storm pay, as Linus Nyman scored with two minutes left in the period.
After 40 minutes of play, the score was 2-1 for Kingston and the shots were 28-19 for the home team.
Kingston entered the third looking to build on to their lead and did just that 35 seconds into the period when Nyman scored his second of the game. It was a difficult period for the Storm as they were unable to produce many chances and were held scoreless.
Kingston snapped their three-game losing streak with a 4-1 win over the Storm. The would also go on to outshoot Guelph 41-26.
With the loss, the Storm fall to 7-9-2-1 and the Frontenac’s win improves them to 7-9-1-0.
Next, the Storm return home on Friday night hosting the Ottawa 67’s for their second and final matchup of the year. Puck drop is slated for 7:00 PM at the Sleeman Centre.

- Sunday marked game one of the Guelph Storm and Kingston Frontenacs two-game season series. Game two will take place December 11 at the Sleeman Centre.
