Oster is one of 6 Storm players included on the NHL Central Scouting ‘Players to Watch’ list for October.
HOW IT STARTED
Question: When and how did become involved in hockey?
Oster: My dad put me in IP hockey as a player when I was 4-years old. Every Sunday at 5am I would go to the rink, and I loved it so much that I just kept going.
Q: Have you always been a goalie?
Oster: I started off as a player in my first year and then one day our goalie didn’t show up and nobody wanted to put on the pads. So, I put them on and never really wanted to take them off after that.
Q: Are there any players you style your game after, and if so, who?
Oster: In the NHL it is Andre Vasilevskiy (Tampa Bay). He’s extremely fast and then in terms of puck playing, I look at Nico Daws.
Q: Who would you say is your biggest support system?
Oster: 100% my family. My brother, my parents, and my grandparents.
HOW IT’S GOING
Q: How has your experience in Guelph been so far?
Oster: I’m lovin’ it. I am still getting used to the city because it is a lot different than Ottawa.
Q: How was your experience at development/main camp and did you have a favourite part?
Oster: It was awesome. Even without the different perks because of COVID, it was still amazing. I’ve never experienced something like this. It was cool to soak it all in and say I was here, even if I didn’t make the team.
Q: How would you describe the energy of this year’s team?
Oster: Very high. We have a really good group of guys!
Q: What motivates you to work hard?
Oster: Playing in the NHL. I’ve wanted to since I was a little kid. So that’s my main goal that keeps me working hard.
LOOKING FORWARD
Q: What are you personally working on the most this season?
Oster: Holding my edges. Trying to make myself as big as I can in the net and taking up as much space as I can.
Q: Where do you see yourself in five years?
Oster: Playing in the NHL for sure.
Q: What’s a piece of advice you’d give to someone pursuing an OHL career?
Oster: Come in and give it 110% whenever you can, because you can’t take anything for granted, when you do you might miss your opportunity.
