Another Storm shocker
By Tony Saxon, Guelph Mercury – Young and hungry is showing old and cocky how it’s done.
The home crowd is never more important than do-or-die games in the playoffs… and Round One Rush is back so that fans can pack the Sleeman Centre and cheer their Storm into the second round!
Round One Rush is in effect for the first round of the 2012 post-season giving Storm fans the opportunity to enjoy the excitement of OHL Playoff hockey for only $12!
The ‘Rush’ is on… but don’t miss your chance to buy early because if you wait until the day of the game, TICKET PRICES WILL INCREASE BY UP TO $10 PER TICKET (SEE BELOW).
To say the Guelph Storm entered their best-of-seven series with the Plymouth Whalers as huge underdogs would be a colossal understatement. The Whalers were ranked sixth in the country. The Storm had to scramble just to make the playoffs.
Yet there they are, up 2-0 in their best-of-seven series after a thrilling 5-3 victory at the Sleeman Centre Sunday evening.
A huge Game 3 goes Tuesday night in Plymouth.
Whalers coach Mike Vellucci was the one calling his team “old and cocky.”
“They’re young and hungry and our guys are old and cocky right now, to be honest with you, and they’re playing the game they want to play: soft,” Vellucci said.
“Scotty’s got those guys playing hard, playing the way he played, working hard every shift, and out guys just haven’t shown up.”
Vellucci said his team had better change its approach if it wants to win four of the next five games.
“I think our guys are cocky and they think they’re better than we really are and that Guelph doesn’t deserve to be in the series because we finished second in our conference. But as you can see, they definitely deserve it and they’re going to win this series if we don’t pick up our socks here and play better.”
Francis Menard (pictured) scored the game winner midway through the third period, shoveling home the puck after a scramble in front of the Plymouth net, ruining a Whalers comeback that saw them rally from a 3-0 deficit to tie the game early in the third.
