Storm drops decision versus Whalers
Friday night in front of 3,902 at the Sleeman Centre, the Storm surrendered three goals in the first 15 minutes of the second period and could not recover on their way to a 4-2 loss.
After a scoreless first period, where the visitors outshot Guelph 13-8, the Whalers’ Alex Aleardi struck twice in less than seven minutes to give Plymouth a 2-0 lead. Later in the frame on a five-on-three advantage Robbie Czarnik scored the eventual winner. With 5:32 to play in the second, Taylor Beck and Michael Latta combined on a pretty passing play with Beck scoring his 11th to give the Storm life and cut the lead to a pair after forty minutes.
In the third Guelph would climb within one on Frank Menard’s redirection of a point shot by Andrey Pedan. The Storm would outshoot Plymouth 11-7 in the stanza, but could not manage the equalizer. With Brandon Foote on the bench in favour of the extra attacker, Mitchell Heard iced the game for the Whalers.
Tomorrow night, the same two teams will be back in action south of the border for the back end of the home-and-home. Then next weekend it’s back-to-back home games for the Storm with Belleville visiting on Friday night and the London Knights in town one night later for a 7:30 Saturday start.
