Storm not rewarded for another solid effort
By Tony Saxon, Guelph Mercury
The mantra around the Guelph Storm dressing room these days is “stay the course.”
The Storm finally found a way to get some shots on the opposing goaltender Friday night at the Sleeman Centre, firing 37 of them at Windsor Spitfires goaltender Michael Dipietro. But only one of them beat the 16-year-old rookie as the Storm fell for the sixth time in seven games this season, this one by a 2-1 score.
Guelph has scored just 13 goals in seven games so far this season and Friday was the first time they have had at least 30 shots in regulation this season.
“It’s tough to lose a game, especially when you out chance and outshoot your opponents,” said Storm defencemen Garrett McFadden after the team’s third straight solid outing, which has resulted in just one win.
“We need goals. It’s going to come and we’re going to start getting wins we deserve. Everyone’s sticking to the system and shooting from everywhere and we’re getting shots on goal.
“We’re just driving into guys’ brains about playing the right way and when everyone gets on board we’re going to start seeing results.”
McFadden’s first of the season gave the Storm the lead late in the first period when he swatted home a crazy rebound off the end glass that bounced right back in front of the Windsor net.
Bradley Latour tied it on a scrambly power play goal with 1:12 left in the first period after the Storm’s Tyler Boston was whistled for playing with a broken stick.
