Rookie Stevens shines in 6-4 victory
Guelph Storm rookie Liam Stevens has finally arrived in the Ontario Hockey League.
The 16-year-old Waterdown native scored his first two OHL goals Thursday night as the Storm continued its improved play with a 6-4 win over the Peterborough Petes at the Peterborough Memorial Centre.
The Storm now has six points out of its last four games, two of them wins.
Stevens, the Storm’s second round pick in the last draft, had been spinning his wheels a little bit in the start to his major junior career, picking up a single assist through his first 28 games with Guelph and leaving many wondering where the player described as a little pit bull on draft day had gone.
Over the last three games he has emerged, playing with a confidence and physicality that augment his skills.
“I’ve had a lot more confidence on the ice lately and my teammates have been helping me. I think I’ve finally adjusted to the league and taken steps to become better,” Stevens said.
“It sure was pretty good to get that first one off my back and to contribute to the win tonight.”
