Storm Lose Third Straight
On Wednesday night in Mississauga the Storm faced off against the St. Michael’s Majors in what was dubbed the “Paint the Rink Pink” Breast Cancer awareness night. Drew Doughty and Anthony Nigro picked up the only two goals of the night for the Storm in the 4-2 loss.
The Majors scored three times in the opening frame while Drew Doughty tallied the only Storm goal of the period as Mississauga took a 3-1 lead heading into the first intermission. The Majors took the two goal lead off of goals by Casey Cizikas, Jordan Mayer and Mike Pelech. Drew Doughty scored his 11th of the season at 6:56 of the opening frame to tie up the contest before the Majors scored two more. Doughty beat Mississauga netminder Chris Carrozzi with a high wrist shot from the top of the circle for the first Storm goal of the night. Thomas McCollum came in to relieve starter Cody St. Jacques at the start of the second period.
The Majors scored the only goal of the second at 2:31 of the period to add to their two goal lead. Tyler Allen scored his third of the year from Justin Larson and Anthony Tapper to give the Majors a 4-1 lead heading into the third period.
In the third the Storm were pressing hard and created a lot of scoring chances, but Anthony Nigro would be the only Storm to find the back of the net and give them their second goal of the night. Nigro beat Carrozzi in a very similar spot to Doughty, but unfortunately that would not be enough as the Majors would go on to defeat the Storm by a score of 4-2.
Next up the Storm travel to Kitchener on Friday night to face off against the Rangers for a 7:30 pm start. This coming Sunday, February 17th the Storm play host to the Erie Otters at the Sleeman Centre for a 2:00 pm start.
