Steelheads Christmas Countdown – 4
This holiday season, the Mississauga Steelheads are counting down the 12 Days of Christmas by looking back at the history of our franchise and the OHL in Mississauga.
With 4 days to go, we take a look at Trevor Carrick, who’s been wearing the #4 jersey since 2011!

Trevor Carrick is the third of four hockey playing brothers from Stouffville, Ontario. After Jake Carrick spent four years in the OHL before heading to Lakehead University, and Sam Carrick spent four years in the OHL before heading to the Toronto Maple Leafs organization, Trevor looks primed to follow in their footsteps.
Following a 29-point season with the Markham Majors, Trevor was recognized for his strong two-way game and physical play by the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors, who drafted him in fifth round (85th overall) of the 2010 OHL Priority Selection. Unfortunately for Trevor, with the Majors building a veteran team for their 2011 MasterCard Memorial Cup appearance, he was unable to make his debut in the 2010-2011 season. Trevor instead spent the season with his hometown Stouffville Spirit, scoring 6 goals and adding 13 assists in 40 regular season games, and adding 13 points in 19 playoff games.
With Mississauga looking to defend its Eastern Conference Championship, Trevor made his debut in the 2011-2012 season. Trevor showed that he could more than keep up with OHL competition, scoring 6 goals and 13 assists while accumulating 64 penalty minutes through a full 68-game schedule. Trevor also added a goal in the playoffs, as Mississauga took an early exit. Despite failing to push deeper into the playoffs, Trevor was recognized for his success, being named to the OHL’s Second All-Rookie Team. Trevor’s ability was further recognized in the fourth round of the 2012 NHL Entry Draft, as the Carolina Hurricanes selected Trevor with the 115th overall pick.
As the Majors became the Steelheads, Trevor returned to Mississauga looking to build off a strong rookie season. Despite playing in just his second OHL season, Trevor quickly learned from experienced defencemen Stuart Percy and Dylan DeMelo en route to a 31-point season in 56 regular season games. Trevor scored 2 points in 6 playoff games for the Steelheads, as they fell to the #1-seeded Belleville Bulls.
With the departure of the Steelheads’ veteran players, Trevor entered the 2013-2014 season as the most experience defenceman on a very young Steelheads team. With an “A” on his jersey, Trevor has not disappointed, currently sitting at 14 goals 13 assists, good for team leader in points, and league leader in goal scoring among defencemen.
The Carolina Hurricanes rewarded Trevor on December 18, 2013 by signing him to a 3-year entry-level NHL contract. Even with the new contract, Trevor may have a tough time leaving the city he’s called home for the past three seasons.

While Trevor looks to have an outstanding professional hockey career, he’ll remain with the Steelheads this season, hoping to help them through a deeper playoff run as a leading contributor, and role model for the younger players.
Trevor will be in action this Thursday night as the Steelheads visit North Bay for a showdown with the Battalion.
