Steelheads acquire Devlin from Petes
Mississauga, ON – The Steelheads have acquired veteran defenceman Brandon Devlin from the Peterborough Petes in exchange for a 5th round pick in 2016 and a 3rd round pick in 2017.
Devlin, a Brampton, Ontario native will be entering his 5th OHL season after being drafted by the Barrie Colts in the 3rd round, 55th at the 2010 OHL Priority Selection. Mississauga will be Devlin’s 4th OHL team, having spent parts of two seasons with Barrie (80 games), Windsor (57 games) and most recently Peterborough (110 games). Known as an offensive defenceman, Devlin set careers highs in assists (25), goals (14) and points (39) during the 2013-2014 season in Peterborough, adding 85 penalty minutes.
A veteran of 247 OHL games, and two seasons of playoff experience, Devlin should complement a young Steelheads that looks to build on playoff appearances the last two seasons. Steelheads General Manager, James Boyd is thrilled with the intangibles that Devlin brings. “Brandon is a local player who brings OHL experience and an offensive punch to our blue line.”
Devlin will join a young blue line that returns all of its starters from last season including Sean Day, who was granted Exceptional Status for the 2013-2014 season and Stefan Leblanc, who was acquired at the trade deadline from the Sudbury Wolves. Both Day and Leblanc were named to the OHL All Rookie Second Team.
The Steelheads would like to welcome Brandon and the entire Devlin family to the organization. Devlin will be in the Steelheads lineup this Friday as they kick off the 2014-15 season in their Home Opener against the Oshawa Generals at 7:30 pm.
