Martin selected 63rd overall at 2013 NHL Entry Draft
Mississauga, ON – This past weekend at the National Hockey League Draft in Newark, New Jersey, Mississauga Steelheads goaltender Spencer Martin was selected early in the 3rd round (63rd overall) by the Colorado Avalanche.
In 46 regular season games last season with the Steelheads, Martin had a record of 17-21-0-4 with a .906 save percentage and 3.02 goals against average. Martin has been with the Mississauga franchise since being drafted in the first round (18th overall) by the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors at the 2011 OHL Priority Selection. Recently Martin attended the 8th Annual Hockey Canada Program of Excellence Goaltending Camp and brought home a gold medal after winning the IIHF U18 World Championships with Team Canada. Going into the draft Martin was ranked fifth among North American Draft eligible goalies by NHL Central Scouting. The Oakville native joins 1st overall pick Nathan MacKinnon of the Quebec Major Junior League’s Halifax Mooseheads who was also selected byColorado on Sunday.
