Bastian Named Hardest Working Player
MISSISSAUGA, ON — The Mississauga Steelheads are proud to announce that Nathan Bastian has been named Mississauga’s 2014-15 Ryobi Hardest Working Player. Nathan edged second-year defenseman Sean Day and captain Bryson Cianfrone for the title. For his hard work and subsequent victory, Nathan will receive a Ryobi prize pack and is now entered into a league-wide vote. Fans are encouraged to visit www.ontariohockeyleague.com to vote for Nathan as the OHL’s Ryobi Hardest Working Player for the 2014-15 OHL Regular Season. The winner of the league-wide competition will receive a Ryobi 18V Lithium 6-piece combo kit as well as a $2,000 scholarship.
Nathan Bastian showed vast improvements in his first full season in the league. In his rookie season, Bastian was called up from his Midget team in early December and earned himself a permanent spot on the roster. In the remaining 21 games of the regular season, Nathan scored two goals and added an assist. In his sophomore and first full season with Mississauga, Bastian was the only Steelhead to appear in all 68 regular season games; a proverbial ironman. Bastian posted 29 points this season, and his 17 goals ranked fourth on the team.
Bastian was an integral piece to Mississauga’s offence this season often skating on the top two lines, and the Steelheads look forward to his continued progression in years to come. Though born in 1997, Bastian’s late-December birthday results in his NHL draft eligibility approaching in 2016, meaning next season will be his draft year.
On behalf of the Mississauga Steelheads organization and fans, we’d like to thank Nathan for all of his hard work this season, and wish him the best of luck in league-wide competition!
