Steelheads double up on Colts 4-2
The Trout were back in action Friday evening at home against their divisional rival, Barrie Colts, looking to stay in the win column after going 2-1-0-0 during their three-game road trip. Mississauga holds a record of 3-0-1-1 this season against the Colts. Matthew Mancina started in net for the Steelheads and David Ovsjannikov for the Colts.
The first period started out very fast paced. Both teams created solid offensive chances. Michael McLeod opened up the scoring 7:40 into the first period, giving the Steelheads a 1-0 lead. Ovsjannikov made some great saves during the first frame to keep the Colts in the game after the first 20 minutes.
At the start of the second, Jacob Ingham entered the game to relieve Mancina. Both teams continued to play fast and continued to make big hits. Just over two minutes into the period, Michael McLeod scored his second of the game giving the Trout a 2-0 lead. Owen Tippett followed up with a goal of his own to give the Steelheads a 3-0 lead. Anthony Stefano answered back, tucking one in for the Colts, to cut the Steelheads’ lead to two goals. With less than five minutes remaining in the second period, Matthew Titus scored his second of the season, giving Mississauga a 4-1 lead going into the final frame.
The game continued to be hard hitting, with both team laying out heavy hits. Zachary Magwood scored for the Colts to cut the lead back down to two, but Jacob Ingham and the Steelheads defense shut the door on the Colts to win the game by a final score of 4-2.
