SmartStop Post-Game Recap – Divincentiis Shuts Down Steelheads
NORTH BAY, ON – The Steelheads were unable to beat Dom Divincentiis Thursday night as they dropped a 3-0 decision to the North Bay Battalion.
Despite a few high danger chances and a couple of power plays, Mississauga couldn’t solve the North Bay goaltender who turned aside all 22 shots he faced for his first shutout of the season.
Liam Arnsby opened the scoring as his goal 6:34 into the game wound up being the game winner. Sandis Vilmanis added the insurance marker and an empty netter, while both Leblanc brothers notched an assist.
For the Steelheads, Jack Ivankovic was excellent between the posts, stopping 26 shots including a few 10-bell saves. Porter Martone was flying around all night, leading the team in shots on goal with five.
The Battalion got off to a hot start with a power play goal six minutes into the contest, when Wyatt Kennedy’s point shot was tipped beautifully by Arnsby to put his team up early.
They extended the lead to two midway through the second as Vilmanis walked into the slot and laced a wrist shot into the top corner for his 15th of the season.
Anthony Romani looked to make it 3-0 when he was sprung on a breakaway and made a gorgeous move, but Ivankovic stuck with it and made a great pad save stretching back across his body to keep the puck out.
With the Mississauga net empty Vilmanis outskated Jakub Fibigr to the loose puck and guided it into the cage to seal the deal.
