Preview: Spirit Look For Redemption in Game Two
PREVIEW: SPIRIT LOOK FOR REDEMPTION IN GAME TWO
ERIE, PA – On Friday night, the Saginaw Spirit and the Erie Otters opened Game One of their Best-Of-Seven Western Conference Quarter-Finals Series with the Otters coming out on top, 5-1.
Erie used a dominating first 20 minutes to gain momentum throughout the hockey game. The Otters took a 3-0 advantage and outshot the Spirit 19-3 in the opening period of Game One.
The Otters continued to dominate in the second period when Travis Dermott cashed in on a 5-on-3 power play advantage to stretch the Erie lead to four goals. Vancouver pick Kyle Pettit scored his second on the night to bring the Erie lead to 5-0.
The Spirit were able to get on the board late in the third period when Jesse Barwell followed up his pass and flipped the puck into the roof behind Devin Williams. The shorthanded tally broke up the shutout bid for the Saginaw native Williams. The Otters held on for the 5-1 decision.
Neither team was bitten by the injury bug in Game One, but the Spirit will continue to be without the services of center Kris Bennett, who is out with an upper body injury.
