The former fourth overall pick of the Mississauga Steelheads in 2015, Owen Tippett quickly became one of the best pure goal scorers in the OHL scoring 75 points (44 goals, 31 assists) during the 2016-17 season. That summer, the Florida Panthers selected Tippett with the 10th overall pick in the NHL Draft. Following a run with Steelheads to the OHL Championship Series in 2018 that came up short, Tippett was hungry to finish the job in the 2018-19 season. However, the Steelheads found themselves preparing for the future and traded Tippett to the Spirit in January of 2019. Tippett’s impact was immediate with the Spirit, scoring 41 points (14 goals, 27 assists) in 31 regular season games. In the playoffs, Tippett rewrote the Spirit record books tying Jordan Szwarz for fifth all-time in Playoff point scoring in franchise history (22). Tippett played 87 games with the Florida Panthers before being dealt to the Philadelphia Flyers during the 2021-2022 season. The Peterborough, Ontario native is cousins with Spirit Alumnus Mitchell Stephens.
