Spirit acquire two picks from Mississauga for Dean Loukus
Saginaw, Mich. – Spirit GM Dave Drinkill announced Friday afternoon that the team has traded overage forward Dean Loukus to the Mississauga Steelheads for a 2024 sixth-round pick (KIT) and 2027 ninth-round pick (MISS).
“Today is very difficult,” said Drinkill. “Dean has been a core piece of this team for many years now. His attitude, work ethic, and leadership abilities made him a standout young man in our group.”
The Spirit drafted the Calumet, Mich. native in the 15th round, 301st overall during the 2019 OHL Priority Selection. In 163 career games with Saginaw, Loukus notched 48 goals and 85 assists for 133 points.
“It has been a joy to watch Dean develop from a young high school hockey player into an OHL veteran in his home state. Challenging as it may be, we believe this move can open us up to improve our team as we head into the postseason.”
This season, Loukus recorded 27 points (9G, 17A) in 34 games. Prior to joining the Sprit, Loukus received the USHS Michigan Mr. Hockey award as the state’s top high school player.
