Three Petes Named to National World Junior Team Selection Processes
It was announced on Monday that three Petes players were named to their country’s selection process for the upcoming World Junior Championships and World Junior Championships Div 1B.
Included in the announcements were Petes forward and New York Rangers prospect, Brennan Othmann, who was named to the Team Canada roster selection camp to take place in Moncton, NB from December 9-12. Petes Defenceman and Philadelphia Flyers prospect, Brian Zanetti, was named to the Team Switzerland roster for the tournament, and Petes forward, Tommy Purdeller, was named to the Team Italy roster for the WJC Div 1B.
Newly acquired New York Rangers first round pick, Brennan Othmann, will get his second opportunity to represent Canada at the World Juniors with his selection to camp. He played in six games for Canada at the 2022 World Juniors, scoring twice and adding four assists on his way to a gold medal. Othmann has also represented Canada at the U18 and U17 levels. He currently leads the Petes in points with 31 in 22 games.
With his selection, Zanetti will be competing in his second World Junior Championship with the Swiss U20 team. In the 2022 World Junior Championship, Zanetti played in four games, recording two assists. Zanetti is one of two NHL drafted players on the Swiss team, and should be a prominent feature on the back end for the team throughout the duration of the tournament.
Purdeller will have the opportunity to represent his country for the second time at the U20 level, after winning gold and securing promotion for Italy in last year’s World Junior Championship Div 2A. The NHL Draft-eligible forward played five games in the 2022 tournament, scoring twice and adding three assists. Purdeller is off to a hot start in his Petes career, recording nine points in his first 12 OHL games.
The Petes are in action at the PMC on Thursday, December 8th when they host the Kitchener Rangers for the first time since 2019. Tickets can be purchased by clicking here.
