Petes Win in OT
Brandon, Manitoba — In the first game between these two teams since last year’s dramatic seven game Western Hockey League Eastern Conference Final, the Brandon Wheat Kings host the Prince Albert Raiders Saturday night at the Keystone Centre.r
r
It was at the Keystone last April when the Wheat Kings defeated the Raiders in the seventh and deciding game to advance to their first WHL Championship Final in seven years – a series that they eventually lost to the defending Memorial Cup Champion Kelowna Rockets.r
r
Since then, both teams have undergone some major changes. While the Wheat Kings began the season without the likes of Eric Fehr, Ryan Stone, Tim Konsorada, Lance Monych, Steven Later and Jakub Sindel, the Raiders are missing the likes of Jeremy Colliton and all star goalkeeper Rejean Beauchemin.r
r
As a result, after both teams reached the league’s Final Four last winter, both have struggled out of the gate this season. r
r
The Raiders enter tonight’s game with a lacklustre 5-11-0-5 record while the defending Eastern Conference Champion Wheat Kings are last in the entire 20-team circuit with a 5-16-2-1 mark. Losers of nine of their last ten games, the Wheat Kings will be hoping to snap a 5-game losing streak tonight and move into a fourth place tie with Prince Albert.r
r
Tonight is Campbells Soup Night at the Keystone Centre. Fans are encouraged to bring a donation to Helping Hands and by doing so, they will be entered to win a Ladies Esquire watch, compliments of western Manitoba’s Co-op groceries.r
r
In off ice news, veteran Mark Derlago and rookie goalkeeper Kurt Jory will be visiting JR Reid School Tuesday as Manitoba Public Insurance, the Brandon Sun and Brandon Police Service present the School Patrol Luncheon of the Month. In addition to enjoying lunch, courtesy of Brandon’s Subway restaurants, the school patrols will have a chance to meet the Wheat Kings and receive tickets to an upcoming game compliments of Manitoba Public Insurance.r

Each month, Constable Don Bell of the Brandon Police Service selects a local school patrol unit for outstanding service.
